Starting from one manufactured surface, pick until there is only a single layer all around. This unmaking creates an inside, which is private. The private side is sometimes hidden, toward the wall.

The private space can be protected by the public surfaces. You must peek in between them to see.

Sometimes, the public face is the surface that protected the absent thing(s). Keep it, and pick away at the rest until there is a single layer.
